Special Bulletin: Congratulations to Writers from 77 Countries Now Being Part of MPP

Ever since I started volunteering as an editor for the ILLUMINATION publications on Medium, one of the most common questions I receive is why Medium doesn’t allow certain countries to use Stripe to monetize content.
Additionally, as a moderator for the ILLUMINATION Slack workspace, I frequently hear concerns about the Medium Partner Program (MPP) from writers.
Today, I am thrilled for two reasons after reading a story by
, my mentor who consistently shares uplifting news with our community.He said:
“A large portion of these inquiries came from India, home to nearly 3,000 of ILLUMINATION’s 31,000 authentic contributors. In addition, approximately 4.46% of the 157 volunteer editors of my publications are from India. With this latest update, these voices will be heard, recognized, and rewarded.
Earlier today, I read a fascinating post by Elvina Fan on the Medium blog announcing the expansion of the Medium Partner Program. This means the program is now available in 77 new countries, bringing the total to 119 supported countries.”

Why am I happy?
First, I am delighted for the underprivileged writers who now have the opportunity to monetize their content and engage readers like me. Second, I believe this positive development will significantly reduce my workload as a publication owner, editor, and community moderator.
I have several editor colleagues from countries such as India, Indonesia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, and various African and South American nations where Stripe was previously unavailable for the MPP.
These dedicated volunteer editors have been working tirelessly without the ability to monetize their content. Unfortunately, some unethical writers have exploited them by submitting plagiarized, harmful, or overtly AI-written content and blaming them as non-supportive. It’s important to note that our editors work purely out of altruism and community spirit.
Conclusions
Today’s news is fantastic, and I congratulate all writers from the 77 newly supported countries. I also extend my gratitude to Medium, despite having some reservations about the platform.
Nonetheless, driven by my love for the community and inspired by my mentor Dr. Yildiz, I have renewed my Friends of Medium membership to better support our writers.
